Automotive: How CR Steels Are Used

Cold‑rolled steels offer precision thickness, premium surface quality and strength levels tailored for vehicle body and structural parts. Typical uses include:

  • Body outers & inners: deep‑drawable IF (Interstitial‑Free) and BH (Bake‑Hardening) steels for hoods, doors, fenders and roofs.
  • Structural reinforcements: cold‑rolled HSLA and Dual‑Phase (DP) AHSS for B‑pillars, rails, sills, cross‑members and seat structures.
  • Chassis & subframes: DP / complex‑phase grades where higher strength and energy absorption are required with formability.
  • EV & battery enclosures: formable HSLA / DP steels balancing stiffness, crash energy management and mass reduction.

Note: OEMs typically specify grade families like IF, BH, HSLA, DP600‑980 and beyond, selected for formability, dent resistance and crash performance. CR sheet is also the substrate for galvanized (HDG) and pre‑painted coatings used widely in automotive manufacturing.
